Laurence Olivier

Olivier and Vivien began seeing each other way before they both divorced their first spouses. They were perfect together on and off stage. After a couple years of having an affair the two were finally able to marry in 1940. The wedding was very quick. The couple, with the company of Katherine Hephburn and Garson Kanin, were married on August 30, 1940, a few minutes after midnight, in Santa Barbara.

Their marriage was a rocky rollar coaster, but the two truly loved each other. Olivier understood Vivien and her illness and did all he could to help her. Vivien adorded Olivier for this and so much more. The two did many stage performances and films together. Their love came clearly through these projects.

In 1944, while filming Caesar and Cleopatra Vivien found out that she was pregnant with her first child with Olivier. The two were absolutely thrilled. Sadly, though, during the filming Vivien slipped down a set of stairs on set and suffered a miscarriage. The loss put a strain on the marriage, but the two were able to make it through.

The rest of their marriage was pretty much the same, it was up and down. Vivien always worried that Larry might be cheating on her and Larry started to become worn down by Vivien's manic depression and the attacks that would come with it. The couple also suffered a second miscarriage towards the end of their marriage, which did not help existing matters. So after 20 years of marriage Olivier asked for a divorce. He had now, at this point, found someone new (Joan Plowright), who he wanted to marry. After trying hard to reconcile with Olivier, Vivien finally agreed to divorce. They were officially divorced in 1960. Despite the divorce, Olivier remained the love of Vivien's life and Vivien was Olivier's. The two did remain close all the way up until her death.
