Her Death

"I'm a Scorpio, and Scorpios eat themselves out and burn themselves up like me." -Vivien Leigh

The darling, Vivien, was found in her bedroom, on the floor, on July 7th, 1967. After many, many battles with the dreadful lung disease of tuberculosis, Vivien's body was no longer able to fight. The tuberculosis had filled Vivien's lungs with fluid, causing her to suffocate. Vivien had passed on.

Memorial Service
Vivien's memorial service took place on July 12th, 1967. It was a Requiem Mass held at St. Mary's, located in London. Along with her daughter Suzanne and her mother Gertrude, about a dozen of Vivien's family members and close friends attended the service.

Burial
Miss Vivien was not buried, but was instead cremated the same day as her memorial service, at Golders Green. About a month later, on October 8th, 1967, Gertrude, Suzanne, Jack, Leigh, and a few others gathered at Tickerage Mill in Sussex, England. There, they went to the mill pond, also known as "the lake", and together they scattered Vivien's ashes into the water, making it her final resting place.

Death Certificate

Afterwards
After the shock of Vivien's death had set in all over the world, many services took place to celebrate the starlet's life. In Hollywood on March 17th, 1968, on the campus of the University of California, in Los Angeles, many actors and friends and family came to honor and rejoice in the life Vivien lived.

Since then, Vivien's life has been celebrated numerous times over the last 40 years. She has been honored professionally and personally by many adoring fans, friends, and family. Her memory will continue to live on.
